Food hunting in Hanoi

We mostly hung around Hanoi like we would in our own hometown: wandering through the streets while watching people and keeping an eye out for good food. Next to that Hanoi is the perfect “homebase” to explore other parts of Vietnam nearby like Ha Long Bay (or in our case: Cat Ba Island) and the mountains of Mu Cang Chai in the north.

Hanoi travel information

  • Transport: We came by plane.
  • Things to do: Wander around the city, visit the Hoa Lo Prison Museum and take trips to Cat Ba Island or Mu Cang Chai. I can really recommend Lily’s travel agency for any arrangements, she’s super helfpul and can get you ANYwhere at a reasonable price (and she’s fast!).
  • Food: The Hanoi Social Club for great food all day long (but especially amazing breakfasts), Bún Chả Đắc Kim for Bún of course, Chả Cá Thăng Long for yummie salmon with turmeric and dill, Hoa quả dầm Hoa béo for delicious deserts and Bánh Mì 25 for the best Banh Mi in town (try the paté!). Here’s an overview!
