Limestone beauty in Krabi
Thailand is for many people the equivalent of a good beach holiday. Well, it isn’t for us. We’re not really beachy persons. Krabi just happened to be the easiest place to meet up with friends of ours.
And then the unexpected happened: Krabi actually grew on me. We took short trips to neighboring beaches and I discovered the beauty of the limestone rocks in and around the ocean. I just loved their sight. It made the beach a much more interesting place to be at.
The small day trip to the Phi Phi Islands on the other hand made me remember why the beach can be a dreadful place as well: all those tourists! You could walk over heads.
A little piece of adolescent mind did feel a bit excited to visit thé beach (you know, the Di Caprio one) and the snorkeling made up for the big masses in the end.
Krabi / Ao Nang trip summary
- Transport: Got in & out by plane. From Krabi Airport to Ao Nang by bus. In the city we did everything by foot.
- Stay: Ao Nang Cliff View Resort had lovely, reasonably priced bungalows not far from town. There’s a good restaurant at the premises and a free shuttle service to & from town is available.
- Eat: There are many restaurants to choose from with all quite average food (to be honest).
- Do: Take a boat to nearby Railay or go on a day trip to the surrounding islands to snorkel.
